Eight missing avocados. One grown man in a high chair. Six months living with the person you're divorcing.

Divorce is serious. But some of it is also completely absurd.

I'm Rose Ajar, author of Who Ate the Avocados?, mother of two and the woman behind The Happy Divorcee.

I write about the absurd side of divorce, independence and starting again.

MONTHS UNDER ONE ROOF

grown man in a high chair

Jane wants a divorce. John would rather things stayed as they are.

Their court date is six months away. Until then, they're still living together with their two children.

Soon, ordinary life becomes completely unreasonable. Groceries need rules. Furniture needs dividing. And when eight avocados disappear from the fridge, John wants answers.

A comic novel about the petty, painful and occasionally absurd reality of divorce, and what happens when you finally get to start again.

"There truly is light and happiness and freedom on the other side of the BS. I loved the dry humor, and the honest and authentic voices."

Apparently, it's not just me.

"It’s funny, clever, and so relatable — even if you’re not going through a divorce."

- Amazon reader

"I really enjoyed this story. As someone who has gone through a divorce, and has dealt with everything these characters dealt with, I can say with certainty the author captured what it's like to be in the middle of a less than amicable divorce."

The Happy Divorcee

Divorced. Happy.

Both can be true.

I live on the East Coast, in the U.S., I'm a mother of two, and yes, I'm divorced.

I call myself The Happy Divorcee. Not because divorce made me happy. Because I'm happy now.

I'm interested in what happens after the lawyers, the arguments and the ridiculous fights over things that once seemed very important. Independence. Money. Co-parenting. Dating again. Freedom. And discovering that starting over can actually be pretty good.

I do most of this in a blonde wig, sunglasses and red lipstick. There's a story behind that too.
